Our portfolio includes state-of-the-art processes for the production of ammonium nitrate solution (AN) as feedstock for all types of AN processes such as the production of low-density ammonium nitrate (LDAN) and chemically pure ammonium nitrate (CPAN).
Uhde offers plants for the production of LDAN/CPAN with a capacity of up to 1,200 mtpd and is one of the leading licensors for these processes.
Low density ammonium nitrate (LDAN) is used as an effective and cost-efficient explosive in mining, mainly in a blend with diesel oil (ANFO) or as CPAN in emulsion-type explosives.
To produce LDAN prills, the ammonium nitrate solution from ammonium nitrate neutralization is concentrated, mixed with an additive, and sprayed in a prilling tower and crystallized in a countercurrent stream of cool air. CPAN is produced similar but without additives.
The Uhde® LDAN/CPAN prilling process is characterized by:
